FAQ

Frequently Asked Question

Is the society only for academic researchers?

Not at all. Whilst our foundation is built upon rigorous scientific study, IBAC deliberately fosters a friendly, multidisciplinary environment. We actively welcome engineers, sound archivists, and passionate amateur wildlife recordists to join our community and attend our symposia.

The student rate (£30/€30) is available to any individual currently enrolled in an undergraduate, masters, or doctoral programme. You may be asked to provide a simple proof of enrolment (such as a university ID or a letter from your supervisor) during the registration process.

The International Bioacoustics Conference is held biennially (every two years). The location changes for each symposium, rotating across different host nations to ensure our society remains truly global. Our next meeting will be held in South Africa, in 2027.

No, but members save money because they can attend our conferences at a reduced rate.

Active members receive updates and networking opportunities through our mailing list. While the Bioacoustics academic journal operates independently, it maintains strong ties with IBAC, and we regularly share relevant publications, European network collections, and historical archives with our community.
